Madison Music Foundry will be closed March 16-29

Saturday, March 14, 2020 by Ken Fitzsimmons | Uncategorized

Dear Foundry community,

We have made the extremely difficult decision to close our doors due to the coronavirus outbreak. We feel that this is the morally responsible thing to do as active members of our community. While this will be very difficult for us and our instructors financially, we recognize that many of you are likely also facing difficult decisions, financial and otherwise. And so we want at the very least to provide you some breathing room.

Following the state's order to close schools, we will be closed beginning March 16. We hope to reopen March 30, but will assess that as the date approaches.

Please be in touch with your instructor regarding any details including whether they are going to offer online lessons.

We are immensely grateful for the value you put in music education and the trust you've granted us and our instructors in carrying out that education.

Take care, stay well, and we will be in touch soon.

Yours in music and community,
The staff at Madison Music Foundry

Transcription Services Are Here!

Wednesday, April 29, 2020 by Madison Music Foundry | Uncategorized

Hello Foundry Family! We hope you've all been staying happy, healthy, and as sane as possible during these historic times. I am oftentimes jealous of dogs. All they know is that things are suddenly AWESOME. Sure, maybe they can't say hi to new friends on the sidewalks, but the entire family is home all day?! Dream come true!

However, there are still some awesome things happening for us musically-inclined people, too: Some of the Foundry instructors are now offering transcription services for hire!

As with lessons, these are services offered independently by instructors; if you have any questions about estimates, range of transcription, etc, please reach out to your preferred instructor directly.

Without further ado, I give you:

(In alphabetical order)

Josh Cohen:
What: Solos or ensembles, any instruments, and can include tablature for guitar/bass. Samples available upon request.
Cost: $30/hr; generally, a single part will take roughly an hour, while ensembles can take 4-15 hours. Email for estimate.
email: joshcohen@themusicofjoshcohen. com

Chris Di Bernardo:
What: Drum set, non-pitched percussion, and vocal rhythm/rhymes for rappers, MCs, etc
Cost: Directly related to the length and difficulty of the requested music. $20 minimum. Email for estimate.
email: cdibernardomusic@gmail.com

Jon Vriesacker:
What: Solos for any monophonic instrument (i.e. like a violin, which plays a single melody at a time, and not like a guitar or a piano, which also plays chords)
Cost: Minimum $25; price based on piece/song. Email or text with recording/link to song, and the time-range of the specific solo/melody to be transcribed.

Uploading Video for Virtual Student Jam

Monday, April 20, 2020 by Ken Fitzsimmons | Student Jam

***The following message is for all participants in the upcoming Virtual Student Jam.***

I'm contacting you because you have indicated that you are (or might be) participating in the Virtual Student Jam. We're excited! We've gotten a great response and have over 40 students signed up! Plus some of you will get to see your instructor participate.

Here are a couple notes about the recording:

  1. A video from your phone or tablet is great. Just remember you'll need a 2nd device to play the original recording.
  2. Wear headphones! We do not want to hear the original recording.
  3. If you need a version with a count in (i.e. you play on the first beat), you can stream one here. Password is The2010s
  4. Once you have a video ready to upload, please submit it here.
  5. Deadline: April 26. We'd love to get all the recordings by the date of the originally scheduled Student Jam. If you need more time, just let us know.

Questions? It's usually best to contact your instructor first. However, we're happy to help. Please email education@madisonmusicfoundry.com with any questions.
